Kiwassa Low-Cost Produce Market – Closing Announcement

Kiwassa Low-Cost Produce Market – Closing Announcement

It is with heavy hearts that we share that Kiwassa’s weekly Low-Cost Produce Market will be ending, with our final market day on Wednesday, March 25.

This has not been an easy decision. We know how important the market has been for many in our community, and we are deeply grateful for the support, care, and connection that has made it what it is.

A Market Rooted in Community
Our not-for-profit produce market has provided fresh fruits and vegetables at affordable prices, helping increase access to healthy, culturally diverse food in our neighbourhood.

More than a place to shop, the market has been a space for:

  • Connection and belonging
  • Dignified access to food
  • Learning and sharing knowledge
  • Community care and support

From sharing soup in our lounge, to chatting with neighbours, to learning new recipes – this space has always been about more than food.

What We Built Together

Over the past year, we’ve seen the market grow into a vibrant and welcoming community hub.

  • Our weekly markets brought people together, with free hot soup and space to gather and connect
Each week, we offered over 20 types of fruits and vegetables, shaped by community needs and cultural preferences

Why This Is Happening
Like many organizations across the city, we are facing funding changes and increasing pressures that impact our ability to sustain programs.

We are incredibly thankful to the City of Vancouver and all of our partners and supporters who have helped make this market possible.

Looking Ahead

While the weekly market is closing, our commitment to the community continues.

We will keep working to:

  • Connect people to food resources and supports
  • Create opportunities for learning, connection, and community care
  • Advocate for accessible, dignified food systems

Join Us for Our Final Market
We warmly invite you to join us for our final market on Wednesday, March 25.
We hope to make this a meaningful gathering – a time to come together, share food, connect, and celebrate what we’ve built as a community.
