Shortly after the COVID-19 pandemic was declared a public health emergency Kiwassa began operating a temporary, emergency food hamper, home delivery program. Through this weekly service our team of volunteers pack and deliver food hampers full of fresh produce, non-perishables, and other items such as meat, milk, and eggs.
This service is primarily available to low income residents in the Hastings Sunrise neighbourhood and surrounding area who are experiencing food insecurity. Priority is given to seniors and those with compromised immune systems or who are chronically ill as well as newcomers, Indigenous, single parents/caregivers, low income individuals and families, those experiencing homelessness, and under/unemployed residing in the neighbourhood.
