Kiwassa provides fun, low-cost after school programs and school break day camps for children in kindergarten to grade four, and preteens in grades five to seven, and community special events for all ages. Some programs are free, others are offered on a “pay what you can” option for low-income families. At the same time as enjoying progams, children and families can make new friends and access valuable information and resources.
Children’s Afterschool and School Break Programs: Kindergarten to grade 4
Kiwassa offers a range of daily after school children’s programs, including a walking school bus from Hastings and Tillicum Schools and healthy snacks. Program offerings include creative movement, theatre, arts, cooking, gardening, swimming, soccer, martial arts, games clubs and more!
After school programs run from 3-5 pm, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. A walking school bus brings children safely from Hastings and Tillicum Schools.From 3-3:45 pm children come to Kiwassa, have a snack and do homework or have supervised play time. From 3:45-5:00 children will be in their registered program. Children’s Program runs 8 week sessions in Fall, Winter, and Spring. Preteen Afterschool and School Break Programs: Grades 5 to 7 Kiwassa Preteens programs offer daily fun, creative, challenging and skill building afterschool and summer day camp activities for preteens in grades 5 to 7, provided by trained, caring and energetic program leaders. Programs are offered on a drop-in basis once registration has been completed, and include healthy snacks, homework help and life skills and leadership training.
Activities include arts, crafts, sports, workshops, dance, theatre, games and outings to local parks and around the city. The preteen program is a cool place to make new friends, learn new things, and enjoy healthy activities.
The preteen program runs every day after school from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm, from October to June and is closed for the winter and spring break. Registration forms should be dropped off at Kiwassa as soon as possible as registration is on a first come basis. Chimo Terrace Afterschool Program Kiwassa offers, in partnership with BC Housing, creative, social and fun activities for children and youth ages 8 to 13 years who live in the Chimo Terrace housing complex. This free program runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 pm to 7:00 pm during school times. Activities include arts, games, healthy snacks and more.
